Scope and Contents

In her catalogue essay, Jennifer L. Riddell writes that "Eve Andree Laramee has dedicated her artistic career to disputing commonly held assumptions about art and science and how these views are transmitted over time, zeroing in on ambiguities, issues of authority and credibility, and unseating polarizations and tidy encapsulations of art=a, science=b." The installation consists of an apparently French rococo, late 18th century period room with specially woven tapestries and loom using Jacquard's techniques with Laramee designed images, a harp, furniture, an early computer, wall panels. The objects and images used and transformed by the artist reflect her interest in connecting art, science, poetry, culture, mechanics into a dense work of chains of meaning. -- Source of annotation: Marvin or Ruth Sackner.
