Biography
Jo Ann Johnson was born April 24, 1949 in Massena, Iowa, to Elmer and Arlene Dinkla. She graduated from Adair-Casey High School in 1967 and received a bachelors degree in education from the University of Northern Iowa in 1971. Also in 1971, she married Brian Johnson, with whom she had two children. Johnson was elected to the Iowa Senate in 1994, serving Guthrie, Adair, Madison, and southwest Dallas counties. She was reelected in 1998 and stepped down in 2002 upon her appointment to the Board of the National Credit Union Administration. She served as chairwoman of the NCUA from 2004-2008. In 2011, Johnson was named superintendent of the Iowa Division of Credit Unions by Governor Terry Branstad. She retired from that position in 2017.
