Biography
Rebecca “Becky” Bucklin was raised in Peoria, Illinois, the oldest of her parents 2 daughters. As a child, she was strongly influenced by her mother, who worked in a series of factory, secretarial, and cleaning jobs in addition to keeping house. Bucklin entered college at the University of Iowa intending to become a teacher but majored instead in public health. She earned a master’s in public health from the University of Iowa in 2016. Bucklin continued to work at the University, eventually becoming a research manager in community and behavioral health, and a fitness instructor. While attending the University of Iowa Bucklin met fellow student Sarmad Saadi, an immigrant from Iraq. The two married in 2017 and welcomed a son in 2022.
