Biography
Growing up in Redmond, Washington, Vivian Ta was the only Asian student at her Catholic school. Her parents, Vietnamese immigrants, owned a pho restaurant and a Chinese restaurant in the Seattle area, where they raised Ta and her two younger siblings. As an undergraduate, Vivian Ta pursued a human services degree, hoping for a career working with non-profit organizations. She later earned an M. Ed from the University of Washington. Ta later married John Sheridan and moved to Iowa to support his academic career. Once there, she chose to further her own education by pursuing a doctoral degree in the University’s Ed.D. Higher Education Program. While enrolled, Ta worked for the University of Iowa as a program coordinator in the Graduate Success Office and later as the Director of Graduate Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.
