The print on translucent paper lists a circular stream of words, printed in different colors, that relate to celestial bodies. These float over the second print that depicts a large silver globe with latitude and longitude lines. Disintegrating silver capital "V's and other letterforms on the outer border of the globe provide an visual effect that it is spinning. The printing on this work is unusually sophisticated and might have been done in collaboration with A. Doyle Moore, a master printer. -- Source of annotation: Marvin or Ruth Sackner.

The calligraphic text at the bottom of the work reads, "Shakespeare, his maze, His Queen, the Lord Southampton, & the dark lady, with the gestures of Rhetorick." Each of the above mentioned is pictured in the print. Several of these elements are present in the drawing on wooden board held in the Sackner Archive. Shakespeare, His Maze / Furnival, John., 1978
The maze is composed of large letters in which the Lord of Southampton, the dark lady and the Queen are standing. A portrait of Shakespeare is drawn within a pyramid. Beneath that is an alphabet of hand signs. The imagery is taken from the drawing, "The Dark Lady" that is held by the Sackner Archive. This print is depicted on page 84 of Furnival's book "The Locative-Vocative Cases" (2012) -- Source of annotation: Marvin or Ruth Sackner.
Shed Shed Shed / Furnival, John., 1970
This depicts a nude figure of a poet drawn in a classical mode in the midground who looks to a group of retreating boys chanting shed, shed, shed as a cartoon-like bubble. The poet says, "Shed your inhibitions, boys." A jester in the foreground state "In which the poet left for dead finally begins to practice what he preaches!" This drawing served as an illustration (page 27) to Michael Horowitz's poem, "The Wolverhampton Wanderer" 1971 (held by Sackner Archive). An image on this painter's cap found by Furnival during his sabbatical year at Anderson Foundation in Rosewell was re-invented on his screen "Fifty-one Towers of Babel" commissioned by the Sackner Archive. Specifically, the American eagle, perfectly rendered, holds a can of paint in one talon and a paint brush in the other with the found phrase from the cap "Paint-Up America" in a banner. -- Source of annotation: Marvin or Ruth Sackner.
