Materials Specific Details

Darling designed this nine-image strip depicting a history of education for display on the facade of The University of Iowa's Main Library, initially envisioning it as a series of low relief sculptures. The building opened in 1951, but the large, flat, alumnium panels were first installed in 1953. For fear of weathering, they were moved inside the building in 1971 and remain available for viewing on the fourth floor as of 2024.
