Biographical / Historical

Born on September 17, 1908 in Des Moines, IA. He left Des Moines after graduating from Theodore Roosevelt High School in 1926, to attend the University of Pennsylvania. Graduating with a degree in engineering in 1931 he worked as a lineman on a railroad during the Great Depression. Haines joined the U.S. Air Force in 1942 and served three years in Britain. He wrote six novels and is the author of many screenplays. His most famous is “Command Decision” which was a novel that became a play and a film. Haines passed on November 18, 1989 at the age of 81.
