Scope and Contents
This collection is 25,000 letters from a lawyer and land speculator in Manchester, Iowa. This finding aid list boxes that contain items with a specific numbering system. Each item number could correspond to more than one item (example, there may be five "item 1s"). These materials relate to one or more subjects or people, and are listed in an index in Series III. This is simply a list rather than content kept in boxes. It is comprised of an alphabetical index of the correspondents with accompanying item numbers. In the case of Griffin's memoranda, lists of taxes, lists of accounts, lists of non-resident lands, etc., these have been given a number but not included in the index. They will be found interspersed throughout the collection.
