Sid Berger of the Peabody Essex Museum attended many Rare Book and Manuscript and American Library Association conventions. At these conventions he gathered as many different bookmarks as he could and mailed them to Sid Huttner who kept them in the envelopes in which they arrived. This is the only order imposed on this collection - that they have remained in the envelope in which they were mailed. Some of the envelopes are marked with the convention at which they were collected, some are not. As well, there are perhaps 300 bookmarks that were not in envelopes.
2014 addendum
Includes one produced with hand-set type and dingbats by the Chesapeake Chapter of APHA in 2013 and one printed on paper hand-made by Harrison Elliott from "apparel [perhaps a shirt?] worn by Bruce Rogers [the famous American typographer]." Also included are citations of other bookmarks and several articles having to do with bookmarks.
