Scope and Contents
The Helena Potash papers measure 10 linear inches and date from 1923 to 2016. The papers are arranged into two series: Potash/Karpman family and Photographs.
The Max and Marie Karpman series (1919-2010) contains materials about the lives of Helena Potash’s parents, Max and Katheryne Marie Karpman. This series includes the Karpman’s marriage certificates, birth announcements for their children, and a framed family tree commemorating their 50th wedding anniversary. There are also records of Max Karpman’s service in the United States Navy in this series, including four medals he earned during World War II. The series concludes with both Max and K. Marie’s death certificates and a memoir entitled Memories with Max: A Lifetime of Stories with Max Karpman.
The Potash Family series has a eulogy, correspondence, and a Sigma Delta Tau sorority certificate of Dorothy Sherman Potash Sanford, Helena Potash’s mother-in-law. The series also includes a newspaper clipping and wedding memorabilia of Helena and Michael Potash, and one pencil drawing of a cat by Helena Potash.
The Photographs series (1923-2016) consists of family photographs. The series contains photographs of Potash and her husband, Michael and both of their parents and grandparents. This series includes pictures of Potash’s ancestors as recent immigrants from Russia.
