The Ruth Ann Small papers date from ca. 1956 to 2017 and measure 2.5 linear inches (1 box). The biographical materials consist of Ruth Ann Small's curriculum vitae and articles featuring Small, as well as a biographical essay about Small by Charles Hawtrey, Professor Emeritus, Department of Urology, University of Iowa College of Medicine. Biographical / Historical
Ruth Ann Small, urology nurse and scholar, was born in 1931 in Hampton, Iowa. After receiving her BS from the University of Iowa College of Nursing, Small worked at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics (UIHC) as staff nurse and later as head nurse in the Department of Urology. In 1963, she was promoted to supervisor of the Department of Urology, a position she held until her retirement in 1988. Small presented papers at several area workshops and conferences and was an active member of the American Urological Association Allied and the Iowa Nurses Association.
