Biographical / Historical
Ann Stromquist was born and raised in Brookville, Indiana, one of four daughters of Mary (Morrissett) and James P. Mullin. From 1966 to 1968, she volunteered with the Peace Corps in Tanzania alongside Shel Stromquist; the two married in Tanzania and eventually settled in Iowa City, where they raised three children. Both Ann and Shel were involved in civil rights activism, and Ann collected these two posters related to Native American communities and organizing in the Dakotas while engaged in solidarity work with those groups.
