This fifth page from the Dante Diary, which is dated June 24, 1979 to September 15, 1979, depicts four graphite renderings of hands and several sketches of ideas for illustrations to the Inferno. Phillips describes several ideas specifying the source of light in his drawings, e.g., from an opened shutter onto an opened book.
