Wally Depew, an artist, musician, poet and writer, died August 18, 2007 in Patagonia, Arizona, two months after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. He was 69. He was born in Scranton, PA. in 1938. He gained Phi Beta Kappa student honors at Keystone College and earned a degree in psychology at Drew University. He played trumpet in the First Army Band in New England, was a jazz musician, one-time publisher of Poetry Newsletter and editor of Dust magazine. In the early 1970s he managed Van's Health Foods in Livermore before settling in the Southwest. He was an exponent of concrete poetry, composer of electronic music and a digital artist who combined words, shapes and colors. A deeply knowledgeable baseball fan, he loyally followed the New York Yankees his entire life. He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Linda Depew of Patagonia; sister, Jean Attenborough of Westfield, N.J.; and niece, Suzanne Attenborough of Palo Alto. -- Source of annotation: Marvin or Ruth Sackner.
