Scope and Contents

This book reproduces Chagall's original 43 gouaches for illustrating the fables by Jean La Fontaine. Although there were 100 fables and gouaches by Chagall, 57 were lost or destroyed in the years after their creation in 1926 - 1927. The exhibition was held in the Musee d'Art Moderne de Ceret and the Musee National Message Biblique Marc Chagall in Nice in 1995. The fables ae laid out in a concrete poetic style. -- Source of annotation: Marvin or Ruth Sackner.
