Scope and Contents

William Blake was known in his lifetime for his illustrations and designs for new editions of other poets works. He was considered as eccentric, visionary and naive during his lifetime. After his death in 1827, his genius and influence became widely recognized for his enormous, varied range of work. This catalogue for the largest exhibition of Blake's work (seen by the Sackners) is divided into four thematic sections: One of the Gothic Artists; The Furnace of Lambeth's Vale; Chambers of the Imagination; Many Formidable Works. -- Source of annotation: Marvin or Ruth Sackner.
