Scope and Contents
Shareen LaPlantz writes that " the term book arts refers to all types of handcrafted books, including blank books, rebinds, albums, journals, and artists' books. Artists' books are those that combine structure (or technique), format, visual images, and presentation. Text is optional - some artists' books are strictly visual." The artists books are well illustrated in this volume and detailed instructions and diagrams demonstrate how to construct the various bindings. The works are organized by types of bindings, i.e. pamphlet stitch, codex, stitches, stab bindings, fold books, combination books and unusual bindings. Suppliers and sources are listed as well as book arts centers and a bibliographic listing. -- Source of annotation: Marvin or Ruth Sackner.
