Scope and Contents

This work consists of drawings that are mounted on panels to form a labyrinth. The pages of the book consist of reproductions of the visual/verbal works of Haack vertically placed in the midst of dense, printed text on the top and bottom of the page. The text is written in a stream of consciousness style in German, English and French. However, in this print the upper five images of the power plugs are not registered correctly. Scope and Contents This exhibition was subtitled, "Five Contemporary Outsiders." The colored illustrations of each of the five artists featured in this exhibition are printed on heavy stock paper. The commentaries in French and English of their work are printed on lighter stock paper. The print included in this catalogue was an add-on to the purchase. This exhibition, which was seen by the Sackners is well summarized by Lauren Danchin's essay in the catalogue. He writes, "Nothing at first could bring together the cave painting style of Christine Sefolosha, the exaggerated fetishes of Joseph Kurhakec and the pseudo tibetan manuscripts or the ritual shields of Lidia Syroka. Nor the little vegetable people living in Jephan de Villiers' legendary land, the Arbony, or Marc Pessin's fictitious archeology with its proliferous writing. Nothing except a common affinity with what could be named the archaic perception of the world, a common feeling for the materials, the techniques and the sensitivity of...

This print is cited and depicted in Claus' catalogue raisonne (Erwachen an Augenblick Spachblatter) as G55 (page 286). Carl-Friedrich Claus was born in 1930 and died in 1998. Twenty copies of this print were made for Galerie Arcade of which five were printed on chine colle; 35 copies were printed on weisse und chamoisfarb Butten and 20 copies on chine colle auf Butten. -- Source of annotation: Marvin or Ruth Sackner.
