She is a rarity among contemporary poets: an elderpractitioner of visual poetry and the art of the hand-made book, an emigre living in Vienna, a trained musicologist who wrote widely about classical composers, and finally a prolific creator of poems and drawings. She has never sought a wide readership nor pushed for the publication of her works and yet now, uch to her delight, readers and audiences are seeking her out. She has spent as much time in academic settings as in the worldsof performed music, museum art, and modern poetry, yet Mnatsakanova is not entirely at home in any one of these worlds. She is a restless, energetic creator whose work opens the boundaries between poetry and music...
