The sculptures are the personal names the grandchildren call Ruth and Marvin Sackner. Joelle documents the work as follows: "Mi2 (Mimi) is set in Bodini Poster Italic. TA (Ta) is set in Trade Gothic Bold Condensed No.20 Oblique. Here they are! I used the laser cutter to make the different layers. It was designed in In Design." Miami Beach More Than a Million Poems, 1986
This sculpture contains forty words hand printed in ink on the sides of ten wooden square blocks. Each block, that can rotate on a wooden dowel through hand movement, measures 11.4 x 11.4 x 2 cm. The words selected by Phillips for each block are: Modernism, Miami Beach, Moonlight, Memory - Inspires, Indulges, Identities, Ignores - Ambiguous, Amorous, Artistic, Abstract - Madness, Mythology, Miracles, Moments - Idiotically, Inwardly, Ineptly, Intensely - Brainless, Backward, Bohemian, Beautiful - Egoists, Emotions, Erections, Eccentrics - Always, Artfully, Already, Absurdly - Confuse, Clarify, Complete, Celebrate - History, Heartache, Happiness, Hysteria. Miniature Obscure, No. 2: Substitute, 1993
The round cardboard case measuring 6.7" in diameter is made from handmade pulp such that bits of fragmented texts appear on its surface. Its lid is perforated in the center. The names of the contributors are printed on two concertinas made from red paper. One of the works has a background of the same word repetively printed in tight grid with two large empty letters, e.g., ER, superimposed = Ersatz (substitute). -- Source of annotation: Marvin or Ruth Sackner.
