Scope and Contents
The writing of the made-up ideograms in the book is in acrylic mainly with Rapidiograph 0.13 to 0.25 mm fine. In the last section, the writing was done with magic marker. On his website (2007) Malik comments on his work as follows. "In 1989 I started the project on daily "Writing" that I have continued ever since. The writing process consists of individual, sign-like characters that never repeat themselves. The traces of movement entail complex lines of a sphere of motion that becomes ever more differentiated. The result cannot be read, or certainly not in the customary sense of the word. The signs of this expansive matrix do not describe anything beyond their own vibration and the curved density of their frequency. It is not their task, claim and meaning to be equivalent or adequate to something "out there", to act as a symbol, or functional script coding information. The moment one releases writing from that intent, something decisive happens in the movement of writing, because...

Dictee, 2001

Scope and Contents
This book is a collection of biographical sketches of the author and her mother. Branch Amazon.com: "The autobiographical work of Theresa Hak Kyung Cha, "Dictee," is both a challenging and unique experience to read. Her provocative blend of prose, poetry, narrative and historical pieces, among other genres, reveal a voice that purposely avoids a "typical" patriarchial discourse that is refreshing although disarming. Her words, contextually somewhat difficult for the (this) reader not previously aware of the complexities and truths of Korean history (both in Korea and America), are at once powerful and insightful...poetic, yet raw. Cha is able to use her gift to offer a glimpse into one woman's history and journey; one that ended much too soon on this planet for this talented artist."Wikipedia: Cha was raped and killed by security guard and serial rapist Joey Sanza in New York City, New York, just a week after the publication of Dictee. Sanza was convicted after three trials and...

Stored with two other Niikuni photographs as a card set. Wikipedia: Seiichi Niikuni (æ–°å›½èª ä¸€ Niikuni Seiichi, December 7, 1925 "“ August 23, 1977) was a Japanese poet and painter. He was one of the foremost pioneers of the international avant-garde concrete poetry movement, creating works of calligraphic, visual and aural poetry. He is recognized as one of the most important poets of recent times in Japanese and German textbooks. In 1964, Niikuni participated in the E. E. Cummings study group held in Yukinobu Kagiya's house, and met Yasuo Fujitomi while there.[6] On June 4, he established an association called the Association of Study of Arts or ASA (èŠ¸è¡“ç ”ç©¶å”会 Geijutsu KenkyÅ« KyÅkai) with Fujitomi with the objective of exploring and experimenting with concrete poetry. They published a namesake magazine ASA and in it introduced both Japanese and foreign concrete poetry, and also translated poems by Haroldo de Campos into Japanese. Fujitomi would also introduce the...
