Helmes sent this work to Ruth Sackner on her 78th birthday. On the enclosed card he writes,"The sonnets are part of a 'Literary Expressionism' approach. Will have a show at Counterpath in Denver, Aug 1-15th 2014 featuring them." -- Source of annotation: Marvin or Ruth Sackner.

This exhibition catalogue was published on the occasion of two exhibitions running concurrently in London in celebration of Phillips' 60th birthday year. The Sackners attended the opening exhibition at the South London Gallery. The new works there consisted of treated skulls, quilts, picture poems, and word sculptures. Older works were exhibited at the Dulwich gallery including portraits, drawings, and collages. In addition, and not illustrated in this catalogue, the panels of Phillips' "Dante Diary" (lent by the Sackners) were also exhibited. -- Source of annotation: Marvin or Ruth Sackner.

According to a personal communication from Charles Verey to the Sackners, Houedard was alternating his time in Prinknash Abbey and Rome, Italy from October 1951 to July 1954. He believed that most of the visual art was done in Rome. -- Source of annotation: Marvin or Ruth Sackner.
