Europa or the Difficulty of History / Jaar, Alfredo ; Altaio, Vicenc., 1995
The political, poetic text in three languages by Vincenc Altaio printed with varied typefaces, sizes and overlays was illustrated by Alfredo Jaar. For the exhibition, the latter made colored photographs that consisted of six large panels depicting fire in the foreground and a long vertical line of smaller photographs of the faces of war victims in the background. -- Source of annotation: Marvin or Ruth Sackner.

This catalogue deals with an international book plate design contest to honor Paul Verlaine, the French poet. Albert Dupont won second place for his book-plate design in memory of Paul Verlaine. The book is designed to resemble a photograph album with black pages and a single large photograph collaged onto each page. It is a memorial to the Dachau concentration camp in a rather sterlle way.. The writing of the "Dachau Museum" and the writing of the "Dachau Camp" are now intermingled and "their simple presence is the proof of their innocence." This piece is dscribed in Gerz's Catalogue Raisonne Volume II, pages 38-39, a book held by the Sackner Archive. It is designated No.783 in Volume III.
