Scope and Contents

The Sackners participated in a marathon discussion about visual poetry held in conjunction with this exhibition that was subsequently broadcasted on Saarbrucken radio. The originals of Ruutsalo's ABC film depicted on pages 95 and 95 as well as prints and typings on pages 98-101 were purchased by the Sackners and are now held by the Sackner Archive. Consists of a unique collection of small editioned (3-12) prints and photographs and a unique drawing inspired by Rock & Roll music that were printed from 1980-1992. The artists sent this contact print from one of their last works that was photographed around Marvin Sackner's birthday. Rimma is the subject with her long, curled hair and her hand holding a red string that penetrates her hair and spells out the word "vita" over her left shoulder. In the letter to Marvin, fastened to the back of the matted photograph, The Gerlovinas write, "Ars longer, vita brevis said the elders, you try to prolong both 'vita' with your profession and 'ars' with your collection." -- Source of annotation: Marvin or Ruth Sackner.

This drawing depicts 31 triangular interlocking zones, set at different angles, of varied colored calligraphic and micrographic written letterformed text. The collaborative book is in homage to Africa. Edited and published by Bob Cobbing. An original typed poem by Bill Keith, "ancestral dancers," that appears in this book is held by the Sackner Archive. This set of cards documents an event that took place at the Manchester Poetry Festival. In a 2002 brochure the following was stated, 'Writer Philip Davenport and artist Phil Sayers have made a series of poster poems. This is an around the city exhibition. At first glance simply fashion posters, the young "female" model is actually a 56 year old man in drag; the words are a poem, not a sales pitch... made by cutting up articles from fashion magazines... Davenport's previous Imaginary Missing People (published Writers Forum 1999) several hundred missing person poster poems bill-posted in Manchester, London, Brighton. Phil Sayers has been an artist since the 1970s, exhibiting nationally and internationally. His work questions gender, celebrates transvestism.' -- Source of annotation: Marvin or Ruth Sackner.
