Scope and Contents Several poems are spread across the pages in the manner of Mallarme's "Un Coup de Des" or the calligrams of Apollinaire. Several of the concrete poems are characterized by fragmented words or absence of spacing between words. This copy differs from the trade edition and the personalized copy held formerly by James Baldwin. The inside covers are painted yellow and the foredges of the pages red. The dedication is written in a distinctive calligraphic style in blue and red inks on the yellow painted background of the inside front cover. There are ten circles outlined in black ink from 3.5-9.7 cm diameter scattered throughout the book of which eight are filled in with colored inks and one is cut out from the page. These embellishments are more elaborate than those in the the James Baldwin copy. Two of the pages with circles form an abstract composition with other lines drawn on the page.
