Scope and Contents

The Sackner Archive contains the second version of Vilen Barsky's poem on toilet paper, "Message of the Toilet Paper" that is photographically reproduced on page 117 and Lev Nussberg's book "Tits of Burluk David's Motherland" on page 125 are held by the Sackner Archive. Collective Farm Magazine, also held by the Sackner Archive, is photographically reproduced on page 153. Vagrich Bakhchanyan, Michael Chernyshov, Rimma Gerlovina, Valery Gerlovin, Henry Khudyakov, and Komer & Malamid each contributed a lithograph to the accompanying portfolio. -- Source of annotation: Marvin or Ruth Sackner.

Scope and Contents

Tatiana Nazarenko contributed an essay Re-Thinking the Value of the Linguistic and Non-Linguistic Sign: Russian Visual Poetry Without Verbal Components." In it she discusses contemporary concrete and visual poetry and expresses gratitude to the Sackners "for their support, hospitality, access to the materials used in this paper and permission for publication." Julia Friedman writes about Alexei Remizov, a Russian writer, painter who made hundreds of albums between 1932 and 1949 that appear to be unique artist books with images and calligraphic narrative texts. -- Source of annotation: Marvin or Ruth Sackner.

Scope and Contents

El Lissitzky's "Beat the Whites with the Red Wedge" is described and documented. The dimensions of this poster which are smaller than the one in the Lenin Library more closely fit with the example held by the Sackner Archive. It probably should be considered a second state of the original lithograph. The annotation notes ... "several identical examples which have recently come to light."
