At one point it was a trend for bookbinders/conservators to empty out stuffed animals (particularly beanie babies) and re-fill them with ceramic or rocks so they could be used as paper weights. This instance utilizes 'Slowpoke,' a sloth beanie baby. A companion version is kept in the UIowa Conservation Lab as a memorial to Spitzmueller.
