General
The Lake Darling Youth Center has been a busy place during the past week as a group of 90 girls between the ages of 8 and 14 spent from Monday until noon Saturday at tire camp sponsored by the local YWCA and Camp Fire organization. There wasn't much time for loafing as the girls took part in such activities as swimming, boating, archery, crafts and other sports and games. Joyce Long, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Curtis Long of Washington, is shown above as she paints a baked clay mold during one of the daily craft sessions. Most of the girls at the camp were from Washington but several other county towns were also represented. Mrs. Merrilt Canady of Washington was camp director and Mrs. Charles Wells of Crawfordsville served as camp nurse. Besides these two women there were also several instructors for various activities and 10 women to serve as cabin mothers and 10 older teenage girls working as counselors.; The picture above shows a group of the camp girls and three counselors in a circle playing one of their many games. The portion of the building shown in the background is the main hall at the youth camp.
