General

Pony rides, fortune tellers, clowns and a variety of concession stands were featured in the old fashioned "back yard circus" held, of course, in the back yard at the John Butter home here Tuesday afternoon. The circus, complete with two caged birds which look the place of the wild animals, was the smashing success which followed many days of preparation by the young children of the John Butler and Loren (Pee Wee) Day families. The picture above was taken during one of the impromptu side-shows as Jim Adkins, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Adkins, happily, cooled off Patty Butler, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Butler, with a cold spray of water from the hose.;In the midst of several masses of wool in the above picture is 12-year-old Doug Steele, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Steele. Young Doug is raising six sheep, three of which are triplet lambs which were born last February, for a 4-H project on his father's farm about nine miles south of Washington. Doug, in his second year as a member of the Marion Men 4-H Club, says he is having a little difficulty with one of his triplet lambs but if everything works out all right he will enter them in the annual Washington County Fair which will be held at the fair grounds here August 3 through the 7th.
