General
The entire basement of the Methodist Church here Thursday morning and afternoon was an array of fall flowers as the Garden Department of the Washington Fortnightly Club sponsored its annual flower show, "Fall Flower Fantasy." In the picture above is one of the hundreds of floral arrangements which filled the Methodist church bascment. Shown placing the flowers is Mrs. Ralph Bauer who, along with Mrs. Paul Snakenberg, made up the placement committee for the annual event. General chairman of the show was Mrs. Lester Orr and she was assisted by Mrs. B.F. Bostwick; The situation was the same all over Washington Tuesday morning when summer vacation officially came to an end for the younger set and they started out for their first half day of classes in the new school year. 10 year-old Dan Reed, son of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Flowers, 1019 South 9th, is on his bicycle with his books in one hand and waving good-by to his mother with the other as he started off to begin a new year in the fourth grade at Lincoln School. School officials reported a record number of 1,659 pupils enrolled in the local school system Tuesday morning.; Y's Men Austrian Visitor
