Scope and Contents The collection consists of three series: University Operations Manual, University Organization Charts, and Other Policies. Series I: First issued in 1966, the Operations Manual addressed all aspects of University policies and procedures. The series includes the original 1966 manual, together with the various pages superceded over the years from 1967-1986. Also included are the later editions of the manual (bound and loose) from 1993-2004. Series II: The administrative offices of the University's colleges and other units prepared the organization charts at the request of the Office of the President in 1988. The charts identify positions by title. The charts also rank the positions based upon their hierarchical relationships with other positions within their respective units. Scope and Contents The papers of Thomas H. Macbride consist of approximately eight linear feet of manuscripts (series 1) dating from 1845 to 1954. They are organized alphabetically by format of material, and then chronologically within each format. They document his career as a professor and president of the University of Iowa from 1914 to 1916. The papers also include about eight linear feet of administrative records from the Office of the President of the University (series 2).Included in series 1 are letters from: Paul Bartsch, Charles E. Bessey, W.R. Boyd, Jay N. Darling, Harvey Ingham, Laurence C. Jones, Frank O. Lowden, G.W. Martin, Louis H. Pammel, Gifford Pinchot, Carl E. Seashore, Fred J. Seaver, Benjamin F. Shambaugh, Bertha M.H. Shambaugh, Bohumil Shimek, John Springer, and Robert B. Scope and Contents Material related to Virgil Hancher's term as thirteenth president of the University of Iowa, 1940-1964.Since the Walter Jessup administration in 1916, the President's Office has maintained an index of Presidential Correspondence in the form of a Kardex file to which name and subject entries are posted. A new alphabetical sequence is begun approximately each fiscal year. These cards files have been photocopied and a bound copy is available in the University Archives; these primary files are not yet available on-line. They are, clearly, essential to tracing correspondence on specific subjects.
