Biographical / Historical
The Green Flag Campaign was launched in February 2020 by the Rape Victim Advocacy Program (RVAP) as way to engage students to be able to notice, aknowledge, and verify green flags in a variety of different relationships in their inter-personal lives. The campaign was to counter the narrative of red flags, and give people a way to recognize positive behaviors from people alongside the negative.
In an interview with the Daily Iowan, Shalisa Gladney, who at the time was the RVAP's education coordinator, said that they "created the UI Green Flag Campaign to engage with students to explore aspects of healthy relationships,” Gladney said. “We want students to be able to recognize healthy behaviors so that they can build and maintain relationships that are safe, happy, and fulfilling.”
The Green Flag Campaign program took place in February to go alongside Dating Violence Awareness Month, and the event tooks place during the week of Valentines Day.
