This collection is comprised of photographs of different sports on University of Iowa campus, including track, gymnastics, basketball, boxing, men's swimming, baseball, tennis, football, skiing. Many of the images were taken by Herbert Nipson, however, it is unclear if he took all of the images in this collection.

Biographical / Historical

Herbert Nipson came to the University of Iowa in 1946 to join the University of Iowa Writers' Workshop for an MFA. While at the University of Iowa, Nipson emersed himself into photography. He worked for the Daily Iowan newspaper and was a photographer for the Cedar Rapids Gazette. His photography work won him several awards and an honorable mention in the Iowa Press Photographers competition. After his work at Iowa, Nipson went on to join Ebony magazine until his retirement.
