In this book, Diacono provides a parody of Stephan Mallarme's "Un Coup de Des." Diacono introduces the poem that he designates "a metrica n'aboolira with cartoons. He then cancells the 1914 layout with blue and orange colored rectangles to bring out its constructivistic presentation. Diacono's book predates the more famous cancelled text treatment by Marcel Broodthaers, a work also held by the Sackner Archive, that was published in 1969. -- Source of annotation: Marvin or Ruth Sackner.

This pamphlet is based upon Paul Auster's novella, "Ghosts" which has characters named White, Black and Blue. Black lives on Orange Street. In the Beaulieu treatment of this work, only chromatic words are retained and the the rest are "cancelled" with non-printed, white space. -- Source of annotation: Marvin or Ruth Sackner.

Scope and Contents Each page has been treated by routing out all the text horizontally with a rotating tool such that the cancellation process takes place word by word. This process is imperfect so that some of letters and fragments of words still remain. The spine of the book has been deliberately cracked to allow the book to be displayed in its opened state. This work was exhibited at the Agnes Scott College Gallery, Atlanta, January 2001.In a letter (2001) to the Sackners, Beube made the following comments. In Segregation, a metamorphosis occurs, transforming the printed text to empty space, and the black ink to dust. Although entire words have become illegible, the remnants of broken letters and vowels can be seen and felt on the crater-like surfaces of the pages.Portions of the book's text have been removed by drilling out each word one page at a time, a process that fragments the book's content. According to her web site, Barbara Drucker received her MFA from UCLA, where she is currently the Associate Dean of Academic Affairs for the School of the Arts and Architecture and Professor of Painting and Drawing in the Department of Art. From 1996 - 2001 she was the founder/director of The Living Room, an alternative exhibition space in Santa Monica, California.
